West Papua News – Moazzam Malik, a British Ambassador to Indonesia, visited Papua and west Papua on duty of his frequently provincial visits in Indonesia. He visited Sorong, Manokwari and Jayapura in matters of meetings with the key government interlocutors at the local and provincial levels, business, civil society groups, and universities.
Ambassador Moazzam Malik, in his speech, stated about his pleasant to visit Indonesia as his third visit to the region after being an ambassador concerning about free west papua. He asserted that he came to Papua and west papua is not only enjoying his staying, but also to discuss any isuues related to climate change, education, and development. As he return in UNIPA University for his visiting at that time, he stated that he was very pleasant to be accepted there and had opportunity to encoyrage students to consider studying in UK thorugh Chevening Sholarshis whish given by UK’s government.
Not only encourage Papuans to study in UK using Chevening Scholarship, he also added some informations related to the Chevening scholarship. It is UK fully funded scholarship which supports the sovereignty of Indonesia. He knew that Papuans are important part in Indonesia. Hence, he wanted Papuans to see the world in a larger area, not being restricted in their area. If they have wide area of knowledge, then there is no west papua conflict anymore.
In addition, Chevening scholarships are the UK’s government’s global scholarship programme for students around the world include Indonesia. This programme is fully funded by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) and partner organization. Meanwhile, Indonesia is the fourth largest countries for the Chevening scholarship programme and there will be 80 awards.
